Celebrate Canada In Downtown Windsor With Parade And Art
The community is invited to celebrate Canada Day in the heart of Downtown Windsor on Wednesday.
Beginning at 11:00am, the Canada Day Parade will travel north along Ouellette Avenue from Giles Boulevard to Pitt Street, bringing more than 60 floats, marching units, performers, and community organizations through the downtown core.
Presented by the Windsor Parade Corporation, this year’s Canada Day Parade will feature a diverse lineup of community groups, performers, and attractions, including the Philippine Heritage Band, The Fire Guy, giant inflatables, MCC’s Parade of Flags, and Grand Marshal Patty Handysides leading the procession. The parade remains one of Windsor’s most anticipated Canada Day traditions and will once again bring music, entertainment, and community spirit to the downtown core.
Running from 10:00am to 2:00pm along University Avenue between Pelissier Street and Freedom Way, the Canada Day Arts Fair will feature more than 25 local artists, as well as family activities, entertainment, and opportunities to shop local. Conveniently located along the parade route, the event offers visitors another opportunity to experience the celebrations while supporting local artists and makers.
Visitors are also encouraged to stop by the Canada Day Parade Fan Zone, located at the southeast corner of Ouellette Avenue and University Avenue within the Arts Fair footprint, where free Firecracker Timbits, face painting, Jangles the Clown, colouring pages, Canada Day flags, and other giveaways will be available while supplies last. Across the intersection, from the northwest corner of Ouellette Ave, the official parade announcer will narrate the parade floats as they move through.
“Canada Day has become one of downtown Windsor’s most diverse community celebrations,” said Shane Peters, Manager of Programs & Placemaking at the Downtown Windsor BIA. “Between the Canada Day Parade and the Arts Fair, residents and visitors can enjoy a full day of entertainment, local culture, family activities, and community spirit right in the heart of the city. We’re proud to partner with the Windsor Parade Corporation to help bring these family-friendly experiences to the community.”
